Summer Camp train with Seniors
Friday, 03 September 2010 08:57    Print

The Try Rugby Summer camps ran a competition during the summer months, offering 15 lucky players from across the province the chance to train with their Connacht heroes. It was all smiles on Tuesday in the Sportsground when they took to the pitch, with Dan McFarland putting the fun session together.
Wendy Hickey, Rugby camp coordinator, was delighted the idea went down well with all players, kids, and parents. “It was an idea we came up with during the summer, and the professional management were on board straight away and supported it whole heartedly. It’s a chance not many kids would get, and we were delighted to make it happen for them. I would like to thank in particular Dan, the senior management and players for making it a great day for everyone “

Connacht U19s played Munster in a friendly at Old Cresent RFC on Tuesday night in prepration for the upcoming U19s interpros. Munster scored first with a try and conversion but Connacht kept their composure to play some very good rugby. Taigh Leader scored a great try after some great Connacht interplay. He also convereted it to leave the score 7-7. More hard work at the breakdown forced a penalty which Leader converted to make it 10 - 7 to Connacht. at hallf time. Munster played some great rugby in the second period and the Connacht defence had to work hard to keep them at bay and it was a great defensive display as Munster could not breach the line. A well worked try by Conor Finn finished off the scoring. it was a great workout for the u19s.

CARRICK RFC SUMMER CRAG LEAGUE - JUDGEMENT NIGHT AND SUMMER BBQ

SF RESULTS
THE HEAVY SLEDGERS REBORN 14 SHEEMORE SHEEITES 5
BIG DAWGS 10 AINES DEMONS 9

FINAL
THE HEAVY SLEDGERS 5 THE BIG DAWGS 1

So another Summer CRAG league has come and gone with Stephen Guckians Heavy Sledgers being pushed all the way in the final.

After prevailing at the death in a fractious semi final the Big Dawgs led the final by a solitary point with time and the light fading.  However after trouncing all comers throughout the league the Sledgers weren't about to take this lying down and rattled off 5 points in a frantic final minutes.

Many thanks to all teams and players that took part throughout the summer and we look forward to your support throughout the season ahead.

CLUB MESSAGES

Many thanks to Kenny and all the team at Murtaghs for a job well done at our Summer BBQ last Saturday, a top job as always.

Thank you to referee Trevor McHugh for keeping order at Judgement Night last Thursday.

A big thank you again to Carrick Town FC, for putting us up for the summer.  Much appreciated as always.

Well done to senior players David McHugh and Dermot Foley for their good results in the Leitrim and Roscommon Senior Championships over the weekend.  It's heartening to see the efforts they are making to keep fit for the oncoming rugby season.

Finally, as another club that endured a long period of hibernation, it gives us great pleasure to welcome back Leitrim Villa FC to the local sporting landscape.

Coaching Seminar
Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:08    Print

The Coach Development Department of Connacht Rugby are delighted to announce that Dave McHugh will present a seminar for coaches on the recent Law interpretation changes that are in place for the 2010 / 11 season.  Dave is a former top level international referee having refereed in 3 world cups and 2 Heineken Cup finals.  He is the IRFU high performance Referee Development Officer.  He is currently visiting all four provinces delivering seminars for club coaches on the new law interpretation changes.

Connacht Rugby's coach development manager Eamonn Molloy can not stress the importance of each club sending Coaching Representative to the meetings.  "There are a number of key changes coming into effect this season.  Although the changes are subtle in nature if coaches and players do not bring themselves up to speed they will defiantly be on the back foot for the start of the season so I would urge every senior and junior club to make sure they send a coaching representative to the seminar".

The seminar is open to Senior and Junior 1 coaches throughout the province.  Should you wish to attend please contact Eamonn Molly on 091-561568 or by email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
