Glynn Cup
The Glynn Cup rugby festival kicks off at 11 am on St Patrick's day with over 30 teams from Corinthians and Galwegians competing for points in the Ryder Cup format. The Senior game will bring a curtain down on proceedings at 4pm and this year the clubs have come together to launch a website for the novel event. The website, www.glynncup.com has details of parking arrangements, match times and a history of the Glynn Cup which started in 1959.
Glynn Cup fixtures (all games 40 minutes in duration bar the Senior match which is 60 minutes): Galwegians and Corinthians will meet in the following levels. 11am: Main Pitch: 3rd xv game; Top Pitch: Under 16 game. 11:45am Main Pitch: Under 21 game; Top Pitch: Under 14 game. 12:30am: Main Pitch Under 15sB; Top Ptich: Under 19s. 1:15pm: Main Pitch: 2nd xv; Top Pitch: Under 17s. 2pm: Main Pitch: Under 13s; Top Pitch: Under 15As. 2:45pm: Main Pitch: Under 9s & 10s; Top Pitch: Under 7s and 8s. 3:10pm: Main Pitch: Ladies: Top Pitch Under 11s and 12s. 4pm: Main Pitch: 1st xv. |

Sligo Grammar School 26 Colaiste Iognaid 11 Sligo Grammar School captured the Connacht Tribune Senior Schools Cup when they defeated holders Colaiste Iognaid in the final at the Sportsground on Wednesday. The champions led 11-8 at the interval after an early try from Peter Laffey for Sligo was cancelled by one from Conor Murphy for Colaiste Iognaid. Robert Butler kicked two penalties for the holders as Pat Hughes landed one for Sligo. Scott Oates got Sligo’s second try shortly after the restart and they secured the title when Hughes landed a late drop goal before David Butler broke for a try in the dying moments.

Calasanctius College 17 Rice College 5 Holders Calasanctius College from Oranmore retained their Connacht Tribune Schools Junior Cup title at the Sportsground on Wednesday. Flanker Paul O’Donnell got their opening try and prop Tom Huxford added a second before Rice College responded with a try from Ernan Geraghty. But O’Donnell got his second try for Calasanctius to lead by 17-5 at the break and they held on for their second crown during a scoreless second-half.

The Connacht Tribune Schools Cup Finals are bing held in the Sportsground, Galway today (Wednesday 10th March)
The Connacht Tribune Schools Junior Cup kicks off at 1.30pm between St Calasanctius, Oranmore and Rice College, Westport.
After 2 thrilling wins over Sligo Grammar (3-0) and Summerhill College, Sligo (3-0) Calasanctius College Oranmore will face Rice College Westport who overcame Marist College Athlone (13-7) and The Bish (St Josephs Galway) (10-8) Luke Murphy
The Connacht Tribune Schools Senior Cup kicks off at 3.00pm between Coláiste Iognaid and Sligo Grammar
The Jes recorded victories over Garbally College Ballinasloe (9-3) and Summerhill College Sligo (45-3) whilst Sligo Grammar beat Marist College Athlone (55-3) and Gallen CS (Ferbane) (45-13) on their way to the Final.
The entry fee which includes both games is €5 for students and €10 for adults and tickets are available at the gate. |
