Galway Corinthians Rugby Youth Academy are very pleased to welcome both new and existing young Rugby Players between the ages of 12 & 18(Born 1992 to 1998) to pre-season training for the 2010/11 Season.

Training commenced on Monday 5th July in Corinthian Park, Cloonacauneen, Tuam Road, Galway and will continue through out the summer @ 7.00PM every Monday evening, ending @ 8.15PM and will be run by Mr Bernie Kelly, Director of Youth Rugby in Corinthians RFC.

Parents & Guardians are most welcome and we would encourage them to take the time to view and tour our fantastic facilities available to their young aspiring Rugby Players in Corinthian Park.

Galway Corinthians has a long and proud tradition of Youth Rugby and  without doubt has been the Galway City’s major contributor to Connacht & Ireland Youth Teams in the past decade.

“We have an excellent Youth structure in place in Galway Corinthians, with Mr Bernie Kelly, Director of Youth Rugby supported by qualified, skilled and ambitious Coaches, active Team Managers and a professional club support structure to ensure the development of the young Rugby Players in positive and safe environment”  according to Mr Michael Berry, President, Galway Corinthians RFC for the 2010/11 Season. The Galway Corinthians Rugby Youth Academy is the foundation stone to the future success of our club and the value and importance we place on it is reflected in our Director of Youth Rugby, the Coaching Teams & Structures we have in place and the demonstrated successes and achievements in recent years.

We are travelling to a festival of Rugby with Old Crescents RFC, Limerick on Saturday 4th September where all teams in Corinthians from U7 to Senior will play Old Crescent RFC. This is a great start to the season for Corinthians and a wonderful opportunity for our Youth Academy.

D.L.S.P. 9 Corinthians 31

D.L.S.P. 9 Corinthians 31

Corinthians finish off with a fine win away to D.L.S.P. on their last Div 2 game of the season in Kirwan Park. The visitors started the strongest with man of the match outhalf Shane Mullaly grubber kicking ahead and touching down out wide after ten minutes of play but missing the subsequent conversion.
Under twenty’s winger Mick O Flynn got in for another try on the blind side after good work by the pack which Mullaly then converted. D.L.S.P., who were looking for a playoff spot in the division, finally got on the score board with a well taken penalty by fullback Conal Hickey after the visitors were penalized for infringing. Hickey was again on target a few minutes later when Corinthians were penalized for collapsing the scrum. Just before halftime Corinthians got in for another try after a great break by Mullaly, who set up centre Eoin Griffin to touch down under the posts. Mullaly converted to leave the visitors leading by nineteen pints to six at the break.                            D.L.S.P. came out in the second half with all guns blazing with back row David Lynch and second row Michael Manning to the fore but all they could get on the score board was another penalty by Hickey after an infringement by the visitors prop Dave Small. Corinthians winger James Buckley got in for a fine individual try, after he broke from the halfway line to skip through the home side defence and again Mullaly converted.     The visitors were now looking for the fourth try and bonus point, which they missed out on in a few games earlier in the season, but this time they made no mistake. The back row Shane Connelly got the ball out to captain Pat Cunningham who set it up for scrum half Hugh Griffin who in turn picked and fed it out to his brother Eoin to get in for the touchdown which Mullaly again converted. At this stage referee Mark Hermin (UIRFU) called full time leaving the visitors winning by thirty one points to nine. D.L.S.P. still made it into the playoffs with Corinthians only one point behind. This was a fine end of season for Corinthians which I’m sure the coaching staff would have been happy with. Corinthians next outing is a domestic one a home game in the Connacht Senior Cup against Connemara All Blacks on Wednesday the 14th at 7pm under lights.

Bruff 27 – 0 Corinthians
Corinthians had no answer to high flying Bruff on Saturday. The home side got off to a flying start with an early score by their winger Stephen Foster which was converted by Phil Moloney. Moloney then added a penalty before the break to leave Bruff leading by ten points to nil at halftime. It was more of the same in the second half with the home side pack dominating proceedings. Their out half Brian Cahill kicked a penalty early in the third quarter adding to Corinthians woes and bringing the score to 13 - 0. Bruff finished with a flourish scoring two fine trys by Cathal Regan and John Shine both of which were converted by Brian Cahill, leaving the home side winning comfortably by twenty seven points to nil. For Corinthians they really are struggling in the last few games and need to knuckle down to stay out of the drop zone. Next up for Corinthians is a home fixture against Thomond on Saturday the 6th of March.
Match report by Brendan Cassidy.
