Nutrition Seminar Countdown, MAY 16
Wednesday, 09 May 2012 12:47    Print

Connacht Rugby HQ: Final Call for Coaches, next Wednesday, 16 May.

Connacht Rugby hosts a coaches seminar on Wednesday, May 16, targeting player nutrition specific to modern rugby's developing adolescents.

Geared specifically at those coaching secondary school students (12-16years), the conjoint IRFU and National Dairy Council (NDC) 'Milk it for all it's worth' initiative seeks to present, discuss and practically demonstrate basic sports nutrition principles.

Run by Ruth Wood-Martin of the IRFU and Connacht Rugby's Ruth Kilcawley, the workshop will impart valuable research gleaned from Irish Rugby's senior professional set-up, tailored to rugby's developing youths.

Research shows marked levels of improvement in performance and recovery against a backdrop of proper nutrition and dietary intake. Coaches will receive an information pack to inform and educate young adolescents on how they can eat and drink to better prepare them for longer, healthier and more enjoyable rugby careers. Kilcawley and Wood-Martin cover the energy demands of young growing players; energy and nutrient requirments of training sessions; how nutrition can play its part in reaping physical gains from training; match-day energy intakes; and maximising player recovery. Central to the seminar message is the fact that athletes of any age respond better to the rigours of sport if properly-prepared, and coaches will reap a greater return from young charges with the knowledge and resources to educate not only players but parents in managing nutrition.

The two-hour seminar starts at 6.30pm on Wednesday, in the Connacht Rugby Gymnasium, behind the Clan Terrace on College Road. Spots are filling up and places are limited.

Take advantage of elite IRFU expertise for minimal cost, and put your developing players in the best possible position to succeed.

Those interested should register with domestic rugby liaison Luke O'Donnell, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , 091 561 568, or 087 176 2656.
