Creggs first team continued their league preparations with a 33 - 5 friendly win against Ballyhaunis on Saturday night last. Highlight of the game was Kevin Martin's hat trick of tries in his first ever game of rugby, definitely a player to look out for. The team have another friendly on Saturday evening next with a 5.30 pm kick off at home to Edenderry and training continues as usual on Tuesday and Thursday at 8 pm. Training for the youth section, 13s up to 17s, begins on Tuesday next at 7 pm sharp and finishes at 8 15 pm. From the following week training will revert back to Wednesday evenings at 7 pm. Registration forms will be available to be brought home and signed.
Connacht Rugby players Liam Bibo and Brett Wilkinson were in Creggs RFC on Saturday morning last for the launch of the new mini rugby season at Creggs. Winger Liam and prop Brett took part in the coaching of underage players and their presence proved a great attractions for the young rugby stars of the future at Creggs. Liam Bibo is in his third season with Connacht Rugby, while Brett is in his fourth season. Both are looking forward to the forthcoming season, after putting in a heavy schedule of pre-season coaching, including lots of strength and endurance sessions. "We put in a lot of hard work during the summer, so the coming season should be good," said Brett, who got a rugby bursary to attend the University of Cape Town, where he studied business management, before coming to Connacht. Liam played with the Queensland Reds second team and came to the Connacht squad after finishing university, where he qualified as a pharmacist. Both are looking forward to the fixture with Cardiff which takes place this Friday night at the Sportsground, with a 7 pm kick off. Both teams are looking for their first win of the campaign. Other forthcoming fixtures include an away game to Ulstyer and a home game against Newport Dragons. On Saturday last the mini rugby season at Creggs RFC got off to an enthusiastic start, with boys and girls of all ages undergoing coaching sessions. Brett Wilkinson, who has been called into the Irish squad, took coaching sessions with the Under 11 players, while Liam worked with the Under 9s and 10s. The mini rugby continues every Saturday morning at 11 am at Creggs RFC.
