As many a rueful politician has said " a week in politics can be a long time" but it can also be said of Sunday's match Tuam v Westport, when a determined and committed Tuam reversed a 31 to 10 Connacht Cup defeat at the hands of Westport a week ago to achieved a 25 to 12 victory in the J1A league match played last Sunday. Westport did not really get out of the blocks for the entire match and bar two second half trys by Owen Maloney and Peter Corcoran, Westport were playing catch up for the entire contest. At half time Westport were 25 to nil down after a dominant first half by Tuam, who were rarely out of the Westport half of the pitch. The visitors did rally and defended well in the second half and allowed no increase to Tuam's total, and the two scores that they made came from hard work from the Westport pack, but on balance they were unable to show the same level of skill and aggression that had given them a victory the weekend before. At the full time whistle, Tuam players and spectators were like the cat that got the cream and full credit to them they were delighted with their win which they well deserved. |
