In a scrappy game played in a gale force wind in Monivea on Sunday last the home side emerged victors by one point. Monivea started the game at 100 miles an hour but after 'wegians had weathered the initial 'storm' they came back into it and played the better rugby for the next hour before a spirited comeback by Monivea earned them the winning score, a scrappy try by winger Ger Divilly. The only good point of this game was a fine conversion by young out half Ger O'Connor which earned victory to an unispired Monivea side. Clearly a lot of work needs to be done to challenge for league honours this year. Special mention must go to referee Peter McCarthy who refereed with authority and let the game flow. |
